Ambiguous illusions are visual forms that create ambiguity, leading to multistable perception. Bistable images have two possible interpretations that cannot be seen simultaneously, with perception alternating between them. The science behind how the brain processes ambiguous figures is still a mystery, studied since the 1800s. Perception of these images can spontaneously reverse, influenced by the observer's knowledge of alternative interpretations. This phenomenon is called "reversal.".
